4-10-08: #1 Penn heads into playoffs
Penn capped off its regular season with a 12-3 victory against Cabrini, giving it a
league leading 15-1 record and a #1 seed heading into the playoffs.
Penn was led by the top two scorers in the league, Art Ross Trophy winner Perry Clarkson (56 pts.)
and Bo Boghosian (47 pts.) Freshman Christian Hoogerheyde was a stalwart in net,
second in the league in goals against.
Penn takes on Temple in the first round of the playoffs this weekend, with games scheduled
for Saturday April 12th at noon, and Sunday April 13th at 3:00 pm.

11-18-07: Penn 10, Widener 0
Penn entered Sunday's game against Widener looking suspiciously muscular. During the warmups, spectators pored over the Quakers' new looks. Skeptics were left wondering: "Bo looks huge - did he use BALCO?" and "Perry's muscles are no longer nano-sized." What happened to the Quakers?
Alas, it was no more than a team meal at Fogo de Chao that energized the Quakers. Heaping portions of sirloins, filets, and bacon-wrapped chicken were consumed as the ounces of protein fueled the muscular explosion that was the Penn offense.
The Quakers came out hungry and never slowed down - except this time it ended with the final whistle instead of a dessert chocolate, much to the chagrin of fried-food connoisseur Andrew Chen.
Perry Clarkson, Bob Johnson, and Bo Boghosian led the initial charge, giving Penn a 4-0 lead after one.
Andy "Balls" Coenen then got into the act. In the second period, one of his Macinnis-esque slapshots beat the goalie glove-side. This, sadly, was followed by two of the most lackluster goals in PCRHL history.
For his second goal, Coenen's flowing hair would have the Widener netminder mistake him for a girl. The goalie did the chivalrous thing and admitted the puck into the net.
Boghosian finished off his hat trick on a pair low burning wrist shots, and then it was back to Coenen's antics. "Let's end this in style," he said once the Quakers held on a 9-0 lead. On the next possession, Coenen carried the puck, stumbled through the crease and hacked a shot into the lower right corner of the net. The peanut gallery gave this goal a 0 on style, but a 10 for Balls' first hat trick in a really long time.
Penn improves its record to 5-0 in PCRHL play and is back in action December 2 against Lehigh.
Notes: Freshman goalie Christian Hoogerheyde played a strong game to record his first career shutout. Litigious defenseman Chris Hu is suing Hoogerheyde for identity theft and defamation of character after noticing that the first syllables of their names sound the same.

10-21-07: Penn 9, Neumann 4
The Penn Quakers opened the 2007-2008 PCRHL season with a 9-4 win over the Neumann Knights, thus beating the very team that knocked Penn out of the PCRHL semifinals last season. The core of Penn's team has undergone several changes over the summer, losing Joey Ahearn, Eric Chen, Tory Haavik, Jet Lee and Andy Zwecker while picking up forward Eric Deutsch, defenseman Austin Thiel and goaltender Christian Hoogerheyde.
The excitement and anticipation of Penn's Nanoday 2007 (which is being held this Wednesday, October 21 in the Towne Building and will feature answers to the popular Penn Roller Hockey questions such as "What is a nanotube?" and "Why are they in my hockey stick?") resulted in the Quakers coming out flat in the first period and letting Neumann grab a 3-0 lead. However, the line of Perry Clarkson, Andy Coenen, Bob Johnson and Kyle Textor fought back to score a quick pair of goals as the first period ended to cut the Knights' lead to one.
In the second period, Penn opened the floodgates. Early in the period, Johnson scored two goals from passes by Textor and Clarkson to put the Quakers ahead 4-3. A few minutes later, Clarkson dug for a loose rebound in front of the Neumann goal and popped in his third goal of the game. A nice outlet play by Coenen set up a Penn two-on-one which resulted in another goal by Johnson to put the Quakers up 6-3. As the second period drew to a close, a frustrated Neumann team took a few undisciplined penalties which paved the way for a power play goal by Bo Boghosian.
Neumann rallied in the third period to score a quick goal. However, Eric Deutsch quickly answered back, taking a pass in front of the net and burying it for his first PCRHL career goal. Later, Chris Hu (or "Chu" as the team decided that he likes to be called) worked hard in front of the Neumann crease and scored to put Penn up 9-4. Upon witnessing Chu's power drive towards the net, team ice cream glutton Andrew Chen let out a loud bellow that was reminiscent of Chewbacca's howl. Due to this, Penn Roller Hockey modified Chris Hu's nickname and will now refer to him as "Chuey".
As the game came to a close, both teams stood mesmerized as Kyle Textor made several rushes to finesse his way single-handedly to the Neumann goal. However, despite his hard work, Textor couldn't quite finish the play and was instead given a two-minute minor penalty for Excessive Toe-Dragging. Boghosian took a dive in the third period and demonstrated that he was hurt by sitting out the remainder of the game and skating around holding his back during play stoppages. However, it was later revealed that this was a charade that enabled Boghosian to solicit others to carry his equipment back to his car and obtain ice packs from Marple Sports Arena.
Goaltender Christian Hoogerheyde stood tall in net and robbed Neumann of several glorious offensive opportunies and swatted at all forwards standing in his crease with his catching glove. Penn PCRHL action will continue again next Sunday afternoon.

4-22-07: Penn vs. Neumann
After dispatching Cabrini in the first round of the playoffs, Penn took on Neumann in the first of a best-of-three series Sunday night.
Sam Rodriguez opened the scoring for the Quakers, after a series of passes more precise than a Medical student's scalpel hand. The top line of Bob Johnson and Perry Clarkson then took over, scoring goals to give the Quakers a 4-2 lead heading into the third. "Ever since Perry bought that nanotube stick we have bonded into a covalent unit," Johnson said. "It's like our nanotubes have somehow fused together."
After Neumann scored to close the score to 4-3, Pear-Bear Clarkson went in on a breakaway. He deked and deposited the puck in the net, blazing a long trail of rainbows and hearts behind him.
It was up to goalie Ahearn to keep the Quakers ahead. Eric Chen advised the team to collapse into "special defense mode," a plan that apparently left Ahearn to fend for himself. Somehow, he kept the rubber out from behind him, and Penn took the first game of the series 5-3.
News and Notes:
Bo Boghosian sat out with an "upper body injury." However, the team suspected the injury was no more than a broken heart. Pear-Bear suggested Boghosian borrow some of his Care Bear hearts, but Boghosian refused.
Game 2 of the series is Saturday, April 28.

2-18-07: Penn vs. Widener
For the Quakers, "goal support" means more than having the league's highest scoring offense. It also refers to the team's effort to prepare tenderfoot goalies who don't know the difference between pad saves and pad thai.
Andrew Chen, the latest netkeeping project, was able to make several clutch saves late in the game that allowed the Quakers to hang in for a wild finish against Widener. Not a bad debut, considering that the loquacious blueliner needed help from a four-man unit just to get his gear on.
Outside of their own zone, however, the Quakers entered the Widener matchup boasting a league high seventy-five goals scored for. Yet for the majority of the game, the offense seemed to have dozed off in the cozy little rink, producing just two goals to Widner's eight after two periods.
In the third period, whether by finally adapting to the smaller surface or by finding inspiration in Balls Coenen's voice cracks, the sleeping-giant Quaker offense got going.
Perry Clarkson made it 8-3 a few minutes into the third, and Sam Rodriguez -- fresh from passing board exams and studying with Fatima -- added two signature low-burning goals that closed the gap to 8-5. Widener's bench remained unworried, still directing taunts at Penn after taking a timeout.
Two quick strikes from Bo Boghosian and Clarkson would make it a one goal game, and Eric Chen appeared to have tied it up with three minutes left, but the goal was disallowed. A few moments later, Kyle Textor would get the real equalizer on a wrist shot from the slot, capping off a remarkable six goal third period comeback.
In overtime, Andrew Chen stopped a dangerous two on one that led to Penn's own odd-man rush led by Clarkson and Bob Johnson. Clarkson streaked down the left side and fed Johnson, who ripped a one-timer five-hole, sparking a bench-clearing celebration. Andrew Chen, crease hero, was able to waddle his way into the pile on. Final score: Penn 9 Widener 8.

2-11-07: Penn vs. Cabrini / Penn vs. Philly U.
Penn continued its hot streak with a doubleheader vs. Cabrini and
Philly U. Sunday night, earning a pair of victories.
From his winter abode in Boston, Sam Rodriguez provided the emotional lift
needed to defeat nemesis Cabrini. Knowing the consequences of a loss
with Sam's impending return on Thursday, the Quakers scared themselves
into playing a solid game. Perry Clarkson netted a hat trick, and Bob
Johnson's nanotube stick transferred enough kinetic energy to the puck to beat
the goalie. The final score was 8-5 Penn.
In the second game of the night, Penn came out strong while looking to
avenge a last second defeat earlier in the season. In the first period,
with Bo Boghosian hunting down a loose puck in the Rams' end, the
Philly U. goaltender tried to play the puck Ron Hextall style, but Boghosian was able to
block the shot and score in the empty net.
From then on, it was the Clarkson-Boghosian line that kept
scoring like a runaway train. Clarkson assisted Boghosian on 3 of his 5
goals as the Quakers cruised to a 10-3 victory. Joey Ahearn played a
nice game in goal despite his questionable antics on the bench.
Penn returns to PCRHL action next Sunday against Widener at 9:00 PM.
-Bo Boghosian
1-18-07: Penn vs. Jimmy Macs
Netminder Joey Ahearn returned to action Sunday following his 3 month journey to the African Safari.
"My visit really helped my game. I saw Rafiki, the sage monkey from the Lion King, and he gave me spiritual guidance. I even saw elephants playing a primitive form of hockey with their tusks. The referee was a zebra! How ironic! LOL!"
The real story of the day, however, was Bob Johnson's nanotube-laced stick. After dropping a few C-notes to acquire the new technology, Johnson was seen explaining the wonders of nanotubes to uninterested teammates. "Carbon nanotubes are one of the greatest miracles in nanoscale science," said Johnson.
After getting fed up listening to Johnson's nano-rants, Chris Hu said "I was about to take that stick and spear him in the face. Then we'll see how he likes nanotubes!"
"Nanotubes, schmanotubes" said Perry "Pear-Bear" Clarkson, another player who wants engineers banned from the team.
Eventually, Johnson and the Quakers rode their wave of nano-excitement onto the court. Penn was victorious by a 3-2 margin, with two goals from Bo Boghosian and the game-winner from Tory Haavik.
Johnson played a strong game, but midway through the second period the referee declared his stick illegal. He went into a tirade, left the ice, and was last seen smashing car windows with his stick to prove how strong nanotubes are.
-Bo Boghosian
11-30-06: Penn vs. Sabotage
The third period is not optional, Penn learned after enduring a late surge by the Sabotage.
After surrendering the first goal, the Quakers resolved to improve their behavior. After all, Santa Claus was coming to town. The first period concluded with Penn up 3-1 from a Jet Lee breakaway in which he faked forehand, deked across the crease and roofed the puck. "I came up with that move in a Banana Republic fitting room," Lee said.
In the second, the goal-producing Elves -- Clarkson, Johnson and Boghosian -- got to work, each notching multiple strikes. Johnson scored on a snapshot that could only be described in the ensuing faceoff by the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, according to the motor-mouthed Chen. "The goalie knew the velocity of that shot," Chen said. "But he could not ascertain the position." A collective shut-the-hell-up was directed at Chen after that comment.
Heading into the final period, Penn had a six goal lead that seemed insurmountable. Talk on the bench veered towards the idle -- homework, pets and how to give away a six goal lead. Yet for all their slacking, the Quakers would hold on and prevail 8-7, due in large part to goalie Ahearn's flashy glove, which has won two-straight.
The C League Quakers will be back in action until next Thursday, when they face Advanced Electric -- the first team to completely switch from skates to segways.
-Eric Chen
11-9-06: Penn vs. Mattys
The hockey gods finally smiled upon Penn as the Quakers earned their first win of the season with an 8-5 triumph over Matty's. Eric Chen, enlightened by Kelly Hrudey's instructional goaltending videos, started in goal for the second straight night. Chen was strong in the first period of the game, giving up only a single goal. This was a significant improvement over his performance the night before where he was almost ejected for attempting to take the opening face-off in full goaltending gear. A late goal by Kyle Textor tied it up at 1 goal apiece at the end of the first period.
Penn continued to rally with a scoring onslaught in the second period, outscoring their opponent 4-3. Jet Lee got it started early on as he made pylons out of several Matty's defenders and wristed the puck into the twine. Bob Johnson contributed two goals – one coming from a snap shot which rocketed in off the left post resulting in a sound which rink attendees confused with Big Ben striking one. Textor scored his second after taking a pass from Johnson and performing a nice dipsy-doodle move past the goalie. Chen continued his antics in goal by embellishing saves. “I got your puck right here” he stated after a shot was fired directly into his catching glove.
Penn came out strong in the third period with Justin Swartz firing a slapper into the top left corner. Sensing a win was imminent and unable to curb his giddiness, Chen constantly left his goal crease during play stoppages to offer praise and encouragement to the Penn skaters. Running on pure adrenaline, his excitement may have even surpassed this guy: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8753595500888171307 . However, this behavior was quickly curtailed by the referees after Chen skated out to the center red line to congratulate Textor who had just popped in a rebound for a Penn power play goal. “Get back in your crease, goalie” snarled the referee who was clearly fed up with Chen's larking about. Textor scored his fourth goal with three seconds left in the game as him and Johnson went down two-on-zero against Matty's goaltender.
Chen, despite playing a great game, was given a stern post-game lecture by his teammates concerning his cockiness in goal. "We're putting him on waivers if he pulls that crap again," stated team president Bo Boghosian. Penn played a strong game at both ends of the rink and looks to carry some momentum into their two PCRHL games this weekend.
-Bob Johnson
10-26-06: Penn vs. Holy Cows
After thrashing the stay-at-home Gramblings last week, Penn hoped to carry some momentum into their Thursday matchup with the Holy Cows in the C-North league. Before the game, injured forward Bo Boghosian giddily undertook a light workout to test the status of his concussion. "I felt pretty awful," Boghosian said. "I don't know what hurts more - my head or my cramps. I need to spa."
The game opened with the Cows netting two unanswered goals. Perry Clarkson, who sported his grandma's bifocals, would score to cut into the lead, and Bob Johnson made it 2-2 with a wrist shot.
The Cows shut out Penn in the second period, striking twice to gain another two goal lead, a margin that could have been worse were it not for the strong goaltending of Alex Chernyak, who had Russian mobsters chanting his name in the stands -- and waiting for him in the parking lot.
In the third, Clarkson scored his second goal from a Chris Hu assist on the power play, and Johnson shot a laser beam over the goalie's glove, evening it up at 4-4.
The Cows took the lead again and would hold onto it until 2:30 remaining when Johnson dished across the slot to Jet Lee who shot the puck off the post and in.
The game went to overtime, where Penn was stopped on a series of rushes and lost on a goal after a turnover.
The final was 6-5, Cows.

10-16-06
Sunday's 7:00 game brought Penn's Quakers against Neumann
2 in exciting PCRHL action.
Penn's new-and-improved A Team proved a solid opponent for the
consistent Neumann squad. Penn came out strong in the first two periods. After falling behind 1-0, goals from Sam Rodriguez and Bo Boghosian brought Penn right back in the game.
The Quakers' full bench and tape-to-tape passing in the second period put the
pressure on Neumann, as Penn took a 5-3 lead. Rodriguez and Boghosian each notched their second of the night, and Andy Coenen his first. Neumann scored one more goal in the second to cut the lead to 5-4.
In the third period, back-to-back penalties gave Neumann a 4-on-2 power play. Stellar defense by
Rodriguez and socialite Andrew Chen was only able to
stave off Neumann for so long, as two power play goals put Penn
behind 6-5. A late power play goal by Bob Johnson brought the score
to a 6-6, but Penn's lack of energy late
in the third period cost them a goal with only a minute left. Neumann then added an empty netter for the 8-6 victory.
The Quakers played a strong game in defeat, and look like early-season contenders in the PCRHL.

4-9-06
The Quakers finished the regular season with a triple header Sunday night, taking on West Chester in the opener, followed by a pair of games against St. Joes.
After a scoreless first period against West Chester, the Quakers jumped out to an early lead when Bo Boghosian scored off an excellent pass from Joung Lee out of the corner. Tory Haavik contributed two goals to increase the Quakers lead.
In the third, West Chester scored a pair of goals to close the score to 5-3, but Boghosian sealed the victory with his second of the night.
Penn came out flat in the first against St. Joseph's, allowing 4 goals in the first. After allowing another goal in the second, the Quakers kept fighting. Boghosian scored on a deflection on a Tory Haavik shot, and Brian Keller scored in the third, but it was not enough as the Quakers lost 5-2.
A resilient Penn squad came out strong in the final game of the night, matching goals with St. Joe's to make the score 3-3. Sam Rodriguez netted a pair of goals for Penn, and Haavik scored another. St Joe's then pulled away with a few goals of their own, and the game ended in a 6-3 defeat.
The Quakers end their regular season with a 9-6-0-1 record, and a fourth seed in the playoffs. Their first round matchup is a best 2 out of 3 series against #5 Lehigh on Sunday, April 9th, at 7:00 and 9:00 PM, with a later game if necessary.
3-16-06
Penn took on the Crows in the opening round of the C North playoffs at Marple this evening, coming away with a 5-4 OT victory.
At first the Crows outplayed the Quakers, going up 3-0 through two periods. Right off the bat in the third period, Penn finally woke up. Following an great defensive play by Martin Angert, the Quakers executed an excellent breakout involving Angert, Bo Boghosian, and Sam Rodriguez. Tory Haavik stuffed in a rebound to finally put the Quakers on the board.
After a fight instigated by Haavik energized the team, Angert and Rodriguez put in goals a minute apart to tie the game. Dan Goldberg made some excellent saves with fantastic defense by blueliners Brian Keller and Justin Swartz. With the Crows on their heels, Bo Boghosian scored with four minutes left to grab the lead. However, the Crows would answer back two minutes later with a goal of their own. The clock ran out on regulation, and overtime would be necessary to settle this one. One minute into the extra session, Tory Haavik put in a Martin Angert rebound to win the game. Coach Jason Kalish called the game "one of Penn's best." Penn advances to the semi-finals of the tournament, which will be played on Monday, March 20th at 9:30pm.
2-28-06
Penn took on Drexel in PCRHL action Sunday night, and came away with a 6-4 victory.
The Quakers started out strong once again, controlling the action in the first period and opening a 5-1 lead on goals by Sam Rodriguez, Bo Boghosian, and Tory Haavik. After Andy Coenen left the game due to injury, it went downhill for Penn. Drexel outplayed Penn for most of the second and third periods, scoring three consecutive goals to close the lead to one.
Down a goal with a few minutes left Drexel gave it all they had, but Penn's defense played strong, blocking several shots and not giving the Drexel offense much room to operate. Penn finally iced the game with 15 seconds remaining when Boghosian scored on a give-and-go from Rodriguez. The Quakers improved their record to 7-3-0-1 with the victory.
2-20-06
Penn played Neumann 1 last night in its first PCRHL game of the semester and came away with an exciting 4-3 victory.
Penn dominated the first period of play. Sam Rodriguez jammed in a rebound in the first to open the scoring, then Eric Chen found Bo Boghosian open in the slot for another quick goal. Shortly after, Boghosian found the net again on a breakaway to make the game 3-0.
Neumann would not go away, however, scoring two goals in the second period to close the game to 3-2. Just when the tide seemed to be turning Neumann's way, the Quakers received the boost they needed when Boghosian finished off his hat trick, deking both a Neumann defender and goalie on a 1-on-1 break.
The game was 4-2 going into the third period, but it was far from over. Neumann scored with 10 minutes remaining to cut the Quakers' lead to one. That would be the rest of the scoring though, as Dan Goldberg held strong in net and the Quaker defense played tough in the final few minutes.
1-13-06
Practice: Sunday 1/15, 5:30 - 7:00. All players.
12-11-05
Each of Penn's teams played their last regular season game this past week. The A team lost a 9-6 decision to Neumann 2 on Sunday in PCRHL play. This decision dropped the A team's PCRHL record to 5-3-0-1.
The D team lost 7-3 Tuesday night. Jeff Benshetler and Amr El Jack contributed goals for Penn, but it was not enough as they faced a strong opponent.
Thursday night, the A team took a thrilling 4-3 (OT) victory to finish a strong regular season. The game was 3-2 in the waning minutes, but Tory Haavik tied the game with a rebound goal with only 30 seconds left in regulation. In overtime, Dan Goldberg continued his strong game, just enough to hold on until Bo Boghosian swatted in a rebound for the game-winning goal.
Coincidentally, the 5th seeded A team will be facing the Penn alumni team in the first round the C North playoffs. The game is Thursday night at 9:30. The D team plays its first playoff game against the Hellfish Tuesday night at 10:30.
11-29-05
The D team earned a 6-2 victory last night to improve their record to 5-4. Bo Boghosian opened the scoring with a shot on a loose puck, but Penn soon found themselves down 2-1 as a result of defensive lapses.
Andy Coenen scored the lone goal of the 2nd period, tying the game at 2. In the third, Boghosian scored a shorthanded goal, and Jeff Benshetler added one on a shot from the right circle to make the score 4-2. Penn scored twice more in the closing minutes to seal the game.
11-22-05
The PCRHL team improved to 5-2-0-1 Sunday afternoon by defeating West Chester for the second time this season. The game started off well as the Quakers took a quick 1-0 lead when Sam Rodriguez scored on a wrist shot from the point. The Rams tied the game on a fortunate deflection in the crease, but Penn would retake the lead when Andy Coenen managed to squeeze the puck into the net before plowing over the West Chester goalie.
Penn would extend their lead in the 2nd period when Joung Lee scored off of a great pass from Bo Boghosian. Rodriguez then scored his 2nd goal of the night while shorthanded, and Boghosian would add a goal of his own to extend the Quaker lead to 5-2 after 2 periods.
Penn iced the game in the third period by killing off a 4-on-2 powerplay for almost 2 full minutes. Martin Angert added a power play goal as the game finished 6-3 in favor of Penn. The Quakers' next PCRHL game is December 4th when they will attempt to avenge an earlier loss against Neumann 2.
11-18-05
Penn's A team came away with a resounding victory last night in the Marple C North League, winning 8-2 against Kaos. Jason Kalish, returning from injury, led the Quakers in net.
Penn
jumped out 2-0 on Kaos in the first period, on two goals by Sam Rodriguez. After Martin Angert scored in the second, Kaos threatened, scoring 2 fast goals to make the game 3-2. But the comeback attempt was to end, as from then on, it was all Penn. Brian Keller toasted the goalie down low to make it 4-2, then Bo Boghosian and Joung "Jet" Lee, working on the same line, each lit the lamp twice.
The Quakers played a strong game all around in their 8-2 victory, and have their sights set on the C North Championship.
11-15-05
The A team earned two victories Sunday in the PCRHL. Penn defeated West Chester 6-1 in the first game, and Lehigh 6-3 in the nightcap.
Penn started out strong against West Chester, with Bo Boghosian backhanding his own rebound in to open the scoring. Sam Rodriguez, Tory Haavik, and Brian Keller all contributed goals in the victory. Penn controlled the game from start to finish, as Dan Goldberg and the defense held West Chester to a single goal.
In the second game of the night, Penn showed some fatigue. It was 2-2 after a sloppy first period of play. Rodriguez then scored for Penn on the power play after a pass across the slot from Brian Keller to make it 3-2, then Boghosian scored on a breakaway to give Penn a two goal cushion. Joung Lee scored his first of the season, banking the puck off the goalie from behind the net, as Penn overcame its first period struggles to win 6-3.
11-8-05
The D team emerged on Monday with an exciting 6-5 victory thanks in part to the assistance of A team veteran Sam Rodriguez. The Quakers found themselves in a tie contest entering the 3rd period before their opponent scored to take a 4-3 lead. Eric Chen would answer with a trying goal just minutes later. The Quakers were trailing again when Sam Rodriguez scored his third goal of the night on a delayed penalty to tie the game.
Rodriguez might have made his biggest contribution with seconds remaining in regulation. His premature celebration as time expired completely demoralized Penn's opponent. In overtime, it was all Penn as Rodriguez put in a loose puck for his fourth goal of the night and a Quaker victory. Dan Goldberg was again solid in net and Amardeep Sahni showed continued improvement on offense. The D team's next game is on Tuesday, 11/15 at 10:30 PM.
11-6-05
A shorthanded Penn team suffered a disappointing defeat on Sunday night to a speedy Neumann 2 team. The Quakers started off strong and Brian Keller scored on a slapshot from the point to give Penn the early lead. Sam Rodriguez then doubled the lead on a wrist shot from the slot.
Rodriguez would add another goal on a breakaway, but Neumann would answer with 2 of their own as Penn held a 3-2 lead after 1 period.
In the 2nd period, Neumann's speed would expose Penn's short bench as the Knights put 4 goals past a helpless Dan Goldberg to take a 6-3 lead after 2. Penn would show its resiliency, as a quick power play goal and a another scored on a scramble by Tory Haavik cut the lead to 6-5. This would not be Penn's night however, as Neumann answered with 2 of their own to re-extend the lead to 8-5. Penn would cut the score to 8-6 as Bo Boghosian scored on a great individual effort on a 1-on-1 break. But it would not be enough, as time ran out on the Quakers and they dropped to 2-2-0-1 in PCRHL play.
10-31-05
Penn played PCRHL games against Lehigh and Kutztown Sunday afternoon. With Jason Kalish absent, Dan Goldberg was left to tend the net for Penn.
Penn struggled in the opening minutes against Lehigh, but the stellar play of Goldberg left the game scoreless after a period. In the second, Penn's hustle led to a plethora of Lehigh penalties. Martin Angert opened the scoring on the power play, his first of three goals, followed by a Brian Keller one-timer. Penn scored a total of five power play goals, before Bo Boghosian finished the scoring, sliding the puck around the goalie's outstretched leg after a sweet juke. The final was a resounding 6-0 victory for Penn, and a shutout for Goldberg.
Against Kutztown, Penn shined again. Sam Rodriguez opened the scoring with a wrist shot. Kutztown tied the game at one, but Penn's offense came through again. Five different players scored for Penn. Goldberg, with the help of solid play from defensemen Justin Swartz and Brian Keller, had another strong game in a 5-2 Penn victory.
10-24-05
Penn opened its PCRHL season last night with a pair of exciting games. Penn lost 3-2 (OT) to Neumann 1, then lost a tough 6-5 game to St. Joseph's.
It was a defensive battle in the first game. Penn, buoyed by Jason Kalish's stellar goaltending, allowed only 2 goals in regulation to send the game to overtime. The play was back and forth, with great opportunities on each side, until the Neumann goalie made a great play on a pass across the slot, poke-checking the puck up to his teammate for a breakaway, on what would have been an easy tap in for Penn.
A heads-up play by Tory Haavik resulted in Penn's first goal, while Sam Rodriguez scored the other for Penn.
Against St. Joseph's, Penn found themselves quickly down 3-0 as the result of defensive lapses. Bo Boghosian opened the scoring for Penn, wristing the puck past the goalie's blocker, off of a nice head-man pass by Martin Angert.
After the second period, Penn found themselves down 5-2, after two more St. Joseph's goals and a goal by Haavik, who netted a rebound as a result of his hard work down low.
A great Penn comeback in the third period stunned the crowd. A Martin Angert slapshot brought Penn to within two. Rodriguez then slipped the puck into the net through a screen, and later scored on a one-timer from Boghosian on a 2-man advantage to tie the game at 5. Still on a power play, Penn looked to score one more to win the game, but St. Joe's scored a shorthanded goal on a 2-on-2 break with under a minute left to seal the victory.

The A team was victorious in its first game of the year in the C North League at Marple. Penn defeated the Crabdaddy's 5-3, with a hat trick by Bo Boghosian and two goals from rookie Eric Chen.
The Crabdaddy's jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, until Boghosian scored on a beautiful one-timer from Martin Angert.
Penn found themselves down 3-2 after the second period. In the third, Chen netted the equalizer, and Boghosian the eventual game-winner on a wrist shot from the slot.
Down a goal, the Crabdaddy's, spearheaded by the 250 lb. Shay Marlin, mounted a fierce attack in the waning moments, but it was silenced when Chen sealed the game with his second of the night.

This site is currently under construction, thanks to our very own #82, Bo Boghosian, who, aside from being the Enforcer on the rink, is a wonderful gentleman and a superb website designer.
The links are not yet functional, however, they will be in a short time. We appreciate your patience.
