What is P4C?

Penn for Choice exists because the persistent erosion of reproductive freedom in the U.S. Though Roe v. Wade established the constitutional validity of a woman's right to choose, this freedom is now more than ever under threat. Penn for Choice is a dynamic student organization promoting awareness of reproductive issues and rights. We have a dedicated member core and a variety of events: including an annual coffeehouse benefit, open educational forums, clinic escorting, speaking events with national figures (like the presidents of the National Organization for Women and NARAL Pro-Choice America), and an annual Choice Week, a week-long series of events aimed at addressing nearly every aspect of reproductive freedom. Last year, we sent 300 members of the Penn community to the March for Women's Lives in Washington, D.C.

P4C is a member of the Penn Consortium of Undergraduate Women.

Sign Planned Parenthood's Two Million for Roe Petition

On April 4, along with numerous other groups including the Women's Law Project, Planned Parenthood, Philadelphia NOW, Pennsylvania NOW, National Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the Coalition of Labor Union Women, Penn for Choice will be going to Harrisburg to lobby for important issues including:
- The Compassionate Assistance for Rape Emergencies (CARE Act), which would guarantee that rape victims a.) have access to EC in emergency rooms and b.) have access to rape crisis counselors in emergency rooms
- Fairness in prescription drug coverage or Contraceptive Equity
- Preventing insurance discrimination against victims of domestic violence
- Ending pharmacist refusal to provide birth control
- Opposing the constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage

This is an incredible opportunity to get to meet our elected representatives and tell them what we want to see happen in PA. If you've never lobbied before, don't worry, there will be training on the bus. Besides, meeting with your legislator is your right as a constituent.

We will leave Penn at 7:30 AM and return to campus around 5 PM. (Please bring a lunch with you.) April 4 is a Tuesday, and we know that creates a conflict with classes for a lot of people, but unfortunately lobbying is really only possible on weekdays (which is also the reason we're leaving so early - we need to be able to meet with legislators when they're in their offices). If you'd really like to come but are worried about classes, we'd encourage you to talk to your professors - especially in poli sci-related subject areas, some professors might be willing to work something out.

The bus is free for Penn students (undergrad or graduate). However, we are asking for a $10 deposit from anyone planning to attend the trip. Your $10 will be returned to you on the bus, but it's important so that we know how many seats to reserve.

If you're planning to come, please e-mail Leah (lheifetz@sas) ASAP, but by March 31 if possible. Before March 31, we can accomodate everyone; after, we might still be able to add people, but seats will be first come, first served. We'll work out a time for you to give us your deposit; we also need to know where you live (location on campus is fine, or if you're from PA, you can also tell us that info) so that you're matched up with the right legislators.
