Committees Information

This year, the Chinese Students Association is facilitating brand new committees for our various operations in order to get members more involved with CSA. Committee involvement will allow you to help organize and plan events for CSA, as well as make events YOU want to happen HAPPEN. Interested in volunteer work? Join the community service committee! Always dreamed of throwing a club party? Join the social committee! No matter what you want to do, there are always ways to get involved at Penn with CSA. Also, joining a committee will allow you to learn more about the various operations within CSA and put you in a position to rise to a chair position or member of the executive board when we have board elections through December – January. There are four committees within CSA: Fundraising, Community Service, Social, and Cultural. Committees will meet at varying frequencies depending on the committee chairs and the timing of events, so be sure to come to our GBM to meet with the chairs and find out more!

Note: You MUST be a paid member to join a committee.

Fundraising

Chairs: Keri Wong, Caroline Teh

The fundraising committee currently spearheads the membership operation as well as supports the other functions of CSA so we can hold even bigger and better events! Previously, the fundraising committee has successfully organized our annual valentine’s day rose sale as well as headed dumpling fest, collaborated with the community service committee for charitable fundraising, and other fundraising initiatives. We welcome everyone who would like to help support CSA and who has an interest in large-scale planning!

Community Service

Chairs: Crystal Pang, Brian Chi

CSA is committed to maintaining a strong bond with not only the community at Penn but all of Philadelphia through community service. Past community service activities have included tutoring children in Chinatown and charity events for the foundation, Give2Asia. We plan to introduce a new Chinatown tutoring opportunity and organize a Chinatown clean-up event. These are great opportunities to explore the Philadelphia community outside of Penn and to meet people too! We are always looking for refreshing and creative ways to give back the community. If you have any ideas or would like to participate in our community service events, please contact either one of the community service co-chairs, Anthony So ( ayso@seas.upenn.edu) or Alan Hsu (hsualan@sas.upenn.edu).

Social

Chairs: Henry Chow, Jacinda Li

The social committee helps plan, organize, and execute CSA social events and activities throughout the school year. Last year, we helped make dumpling fest, a club party downtown and a Chinese New Year show and celebration count among our many successes. After kicking off this school year with BLACKOUT, we are excited for future events and the opportunity to involve as many Penn students as possible!

Cultural

Chair: Molin Zhong, Allan Yang

The cultural component is an integral part of CSA and we strive very hard to promote our culture within the Penn community. The cultural committee organizes various cultural/festival events during the year as well as the annual culture show, which is one of CSA’s biggest events. In past years we have successfully organized The Monkey King and The Little Red Book, plays which showcased CSA’s best talents and drew in full house crowds. This year, we are debating between a play and a variety show and YOU, the cultural committee, can make a serious difference! Along with highly motivated and committed individuals to produce the show, we are also looking for aspiring directors, producers, actors, and scriptwriters for the play and we welcome everyone regardless of experience!
