about us
"I can sum up the Counterparts' sound in three words: Sleek, sultry, and smart."
-Matt Cohen, of the Recorded A Cappella Review Board
Counterparts is Penn's coed jazz and pop a cappella group. Our extensive repertoire features jazz standards like "Tuxedo Junction", "Paper Moon", & "Route 66," as well as the work of modern jazz artists. We also maintain an increasingly large number of pop songs in our repertoire. This variety allows us to tailor performances to our different audiences' needs.
In addition to our show each semester on campus, we enjoy an extensive performance schedule, taking weekend road trips to colleges and universities on the East Coast and traveling during our longer school breaks. Recent trips have taken us to Jamaica, Hawaii, London, Boston, New York, and Los Angeles.
We regularly perform on campus at various coffee houses and other social events and fundraisers, for Penn's Office of Admissions, Alumni Relations and the University President. We also frequently perform in the Philadelphia area at local schools, hotels, restaurants, jazz clubs, and formal galas.
Additionally, at the end of each year, we record a CD and release it at the beginning of the following year.
