![]() In Narrows, Virginia, volunteers worked with many aspects of the community. Last year volunteers built trails to the Appalachian Trail, diverted a stream, and helped build a park. There is no experience necessary, just enthusiasm. Volunteers have real contact with the community. They have experience hosting Spring Breaks and welcome the volunteers. Last year's participants speak about the Mayor of the town as a friend - someone who gracefully showed them his town. Narrows, Virginia used to be mainly supported by an industry that produced cigarette filters. This business has dpess has downsized which has left the town facing economic difficulties. Recently a large mall has been built in the area. This puts an additional strain on the community by drawing people away from local merchants. There are alot of issues that you learn about while staying in Narrows. All in all, it's a warm environment to spend a week getting to know a group of fourteen Penn students and giving back to the community. ![]() If you have any questions about this site, feel free to e-mail Megan
