Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, IncorporatedGamma Epsilon Philadelphia City Chapter |
Gamma Epsilon ProgramsBeloved, You Are My Sister: 98 Years of Service to Women This line is taken from the novel Beloved, by Toni Morrison, a renowned author, professor, and Soror. One of the founding tenets of Alpha Kappa Alpha is to help alleviate problems concerning girls and women and as we continue the legacy of our organization, it is important that we honor that. This theme will be interwoven into all of our programming this academic year. We work diligently to serve our local communities through such activities as soup kitchen, clothing drives, tutoring, and workshops. We sponsor a number of cultural and educational programs throughout the year, such as Po-Jazz Night, Gospel Jam, Black Women's Health Issues, and our annual scholarship drive to support area high school seniors. We rename the month of February "AKA Month" as a tribute to Black History Month and the contributions made by our Sorority to African-American culture. During this month, we host events ranging from an exhibition on the origins of stepping to a soul food dinner. In years past we have brought several renowned speakers to our campuses. |
