What is rush?
Rush is a time for the rushees to get a better understanding of the sorority and the sisters. Since pledging a sorority is a very important decision for the interested participant as well as for the sisters, we feel that getting to know our rushees should be the main goal of our rush process. In addition, interested individuals can meet and talk with the current sisters and become better acquainted with us and the purposes of our sorority.
What is pledging?
Pledging is a time for future sisters to learn about our sorority and to develop the necessary skills to be an active sister. We also place an emphasis on getting to know active sisters and other pledges.
What happens after rush?
After the interview, the sisters will decide whether or not a rushee will be given a bid. If given a bid, the rushee can then decide if she will accept. If the bid is accepted, the rushee will become a pledge and the pledging process will begin.
Will pledging take up too much time and affect my grades?
The sisters of aKDPhi feel that as a college student, one's academics are of primary importance. You can think of joining KDPhi as taking an extra course. Although pledging is a serious decision and one that does require time commitment, our sisters will help you be well organized so that you can carry away all the valuable lessons of pledging while still maintaining academics and participation in other activities. We have an Academic Chair who monitors not only the academic performance of our pledges but those of our active sisters as well.
Does KDPhi haze?
KDPhi has a strict no-hazing policy. Pledging activities are meant to prepare pledges for the responsibilities of active life. The safety and dignity of our future sisters are of utmost importance during the pledging process.
Will I be required to drink?
No sister or pledge will ever be forced to drink against her will.
How long is the pledge period?
The pledge period is intended for the pledges to learn about the sorority and the duties of the actives. Each pledge class functions differently and the length of the pledge period depends on the actions put forth by the class. Therefore, there is no definite time frame for pledging.
Is there a minimum GPA requirement?
KDPhi requires that pledges and active sisters maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. If a pledge or sister falls below the minimum, an academic plan can be worked out with the Academic Chair.
How much does pledging cost?
Semester dues range from $200 to $250. However, money should not be a factor when considering joining. If necessary, KDPhi can provide you with a financial plan.
I still have more questions. Who can I ask?
E-mail our Rush Chairs, Julie Hsieh and Erica Wong! They will be more than happy to answer any questions that you might have.
